🪵 Main Room Floor — Research & Install Guide

Chêne massif · floating clip · Naturel 18×150 · updated 2026-09-02

🗺️ Sequence (high level)
  1. Decide ✅ — EASIKLIP chêne massif Naturel 18×150 · floating clip · no glue.
  2. Check stairs — does the floor run under them or butt up? (changes the demo method). How to check →
  3. Demo — rip up the old stratifié. Guide →
  4. Prep concrete — flat (≤3 mm/2 m), dry, clean; ragréage if needed.
  5. Paint the walls (and ceiling if in scope) — before the floor goes down; plinthes cover the paint's bottom edge.
  6. Order — boards 32 m² + sous-couche (2 rolls) + plinthes ~26 m + cales + bars (order now, runs in parallel with demo/prep/paint).
  7. Acclimatize — planks 48 h min, 3–5 days typical (until moisture equilibrium).
  8. Lay — underlay (film down) → clips → boards → 10–15 mm gap.
  9. Finish — plinthes + thresholds (plinthes guide) + dispose old laminate.

Paint rule (locked): walls before the floor (protect the oak; plinthes cover the paint's bottom edge) · demo before paint (fresh paint is tacky and picks up dust) · ceiling before walls, always top-down.

📋 CHECKLIST — locked: Naturel 18×150 · floating clip · no glue

To do, in order:

  1. Check the stairs — floor under or around them? (changes demo). How to check →
  2. Rip up the old stratifié + its underlay (now) — demo guide →
  3. Inspect the concrete: vacuum, flatness (≤3 mm / 2 m), dryness. Ragréage (self-leveller) if uneven.
  4. Confirm exact m² (~28.6 net).
  5. Decide DIY vs pro — pro floating-clip labour ≈ 700–1,200 €.
  6. Order materials (after subfloor confirmed).
  7. Acclimatize planks 48 h–5 days (until moisture equilibrium).
  8. Lay: underlay (film-side down) → clips → boards → plinthes.
  9. Dispose of old laminate (déchetterie).

To buy (32 m², Naturel 18×150 @ 68 €/m²):

  1. Boards — 32 m² → 2,176 €
  2. Sous-couche 2-en-1 — 2 rolls (15 m² each) → ~186 €
  3. Cales d'espacement (lot 50) → 9.90 €
  4. Plinthes — ~26 m (11× 2.4 m) → ~130–520 € — plinthes guide →
  5. Barres de seuil + maillet + tire-lame → ~60–100 €
  6. Tools if DIY: mitre saw / jigsaw, knee pads, gloves

DIY total ≈ 2,500–2,700 € · plus 700–1,200 € if you hire out the install.

⚠️ Headline: your two links are two different products.
The EASIKLIP one is true solid oak (massif) suspended on aluminium clips.
The Saint-Maclou one is engineered (contrecollé) with a click tongue-and-groove system — it is not massif, despite the "chêne authentique" wording.

1. The core tradeoff (decide this first)

You cannot have all three at once: true solid oak + floating / no glue + tongue-and-groove click. Pick two:

If "chêne massif" is non-negotiable, your field is basically EASIKLIP. If what you actually want is "real oak look, DIY floating click, no glue", then contrecollé opens many more options and is what the Saint-Maclou link already is.

2. Options & prices (verified Sept 2026)

Engineered oak — click floating (no glue) contrecollé

Contrecollé is 15–30% cheaper than EASIKLIP massif on average, and click systems (like 5G Dry) are a bit faster to lay than clips. Same oak look and, on a 3–4 mm wear layer, sandable once or twice. Not "massif", but for a main room it's the far more common choice.

3. Budget notes

4. Installation process (floating, DIY)

  1. Prep the subfloor. Must be clean, dry and flat (≤3 mm over a 2 m straightedge). Check what's under the main room now (tile? concrete? old wood?) — if it's sound and level you can usually float straight over it.
  2. Moisture check. On a ground floor, put down a moisture barrier (poly film / pare-vapeur) if there's any risk of rising damp. Non-negotiable over bare concrete or a ventilated void.
  3. Acclimatize. Leave the packs in the room, unopened, 48 h minimum, 3–5 days typical, until the wood reaches moisture equilibrium with the room.
  4. Remove skirting. Pull the plinthes (or plan to install quarter-round over the expansion gap).
  5. Lay underlay. Roll out the sous-couche (acoustic + vapour) over the whole area, slightly up the walls.
  6. Expansion gap. Leave 10–15 mm around every wall/column/fixed element — use spacers. Wood moves; the gap gets hidden by new plinthes.
  7. Lay the first row along the longest wall, groove side toward the wall, starting in a corner.
  8. Stagger joints by ≥30 cm between adjacent rows (cut the first board of each row as needed).
  9. Join the system:
  10. Cut to fit. End rows, door casings and corners: miter saw (cleanest) or jigsaw. Undercut door jambs so the board slides under for a tight finish.
  11. Trim + finish. Reinstall plinthes (or new quarter-round) over the gap, add threshold bars at doorways, remove spacers.

Tools: mitre saw (or jigsaw), tapping block + mallet, pull bar, spacers, tape measure, pencil, straightedge, sharp knife (underlay), knee pads. Time: a reasonably handy DIYer can do 25–30 m² in a weekend.

5. Questions that change the plan

6. Your room — the numbers (locked)

Dimensions: 4.04 × 7.26 m, minus a ~1.5 × 0.5 m closet notch.

7. Subfloor reality check (the one thing to nail before ordering)

You currently have stratifié (laminate) that looks like wood, floating, likely over concrete. You cannot float new flooring over a floating laminate — two floating layers move independently and the new oak will fail. Plan:

  1. Pull up the laminate (floating, comes up fast — start at the narrowest/last-laid row, lift the inner edge ~30°, unclick). Full demo guide →
  2. Check the concrete: clean, dry, flat (≤3 mm over 2 m). Fix dips/humps with ragréage (self-leveller) if needed.
  3. Moisture test on the concrete — ground floor + concrete = rising damp risk. If any doubt, the pare-vapeur underlay is mandatory (it is anyway).
  4. Then: underlay → spacers (10–15 mm) → EASIKLIP clips row by row → plinthes.

Still open: underfloor heating? (Sable is rated compatible — page confirmed it.)

8. Price compare + the two real tradeoffs

Where to buy (same EASIKLIP boards)

  1. easiklip.fr direct — Sable 49 €/m² · Naturel 68 €/m² · clips included · stock permanent, delivery from 4 Sept. "Prix fabricant", no middleman. Best.
  2. mouluresdunord.fr — EASIKLIP's own showroom site, same "prix fabricant". Not cheaper.
  3. Castorama (codes 575979 / 575978) — reseller, but EASIKLIP states it is "le seul distributeur" even for Castorama purchases. Live price not pullable (JS site); no evidence it's cheaper.
  4. Leboncoin — used lots (e.g. Moka 18×150 at 55 €/m²). Cheaper but secondhand: batch/quantity mismatch risk for a 32 m² room. Avoid for a full room.

Verdict: buy direct at easiklip.fr, Sable 49 €/m².

Contrecollé vs massif — why you'd pick one over the other

Contrecollé is not "bad" — it's the market default for good reasons. The decision is lifespan + authenticity vs ease + stability.

Bottom line: massif if it's "buy once, floor for life" + you value the house asset. Contrecollé if you're optimising cost/ease/underfloor-heating and don't care about re-sanding decades out.

⚠️ The re-sandability argument scales with actual sandable depth. The 18 mm single-plank is the "re-sand many times" product; the 15 mm 3-frise is solid but thinner. Confirm with the vendor that the board is solid-through (not thick-wear engineered) before leaning on the longevity claim.

Glue for massif — good method, wrong tool here

Glued-down (pose collée) solid oak is technically the gold standard: most rigid, quietest, longest-lasting. It is not "bad". The problems are all practical:

Can you DIY it? Yes, technically, but it's the hardest of the three methods and I'd steer against it for a first solid-parquet job at ~29 m²: flatness tolerance kills amateurs (uneven trowel = hollow "drumming" spots, the classic fail), it's time-pressured, and needs one-off specialised tools. The clip system exists precisely to deliver solid-oak without glue's difficulty. If you ever wanted traditionally glued solid parquet, hire a pro (~40–60 €/m² labour).

9. Full EASIKLIP massif range — pros / cons / price (32 m²)

All are chêne massif, clip floating, no glue, clips included. Differences are thickness (resand depth), width/look, and finish. Flooring cost shown for the ~32 m² order.

Lames Extra Larges19×240125 €4,000 €Premium XXL planks, dramatic, modern~2× price; needs very flat subfloor; heavier DIY

Finish note: the huilé range (oiled) is matte, easy to spot-repair, but wants re-oiling every few years. Verni (varnish) is a tougher film but harder to touch up invisibly. The Naturals on this list are huilé.

Recommendation: Naturel 18×150 @ 68 €/m² — thick enough to resand a real number of times, a single wide plank suits a large 29 m² main room, natural is timeless. Take Sable 3 frises @ 49 € only if you want the classic narrow-strip look and are happy to save ~600 € at the cost of 3 mm less resand depth.

10. Professional install cost (Naturel 18×150, ~29 m² laid)

Labour only (pose seule), France 2026 — sources: tarifartisan.fr, lamaisonsaintgobain.fr, hemea.com, yoojo.fr. Get 2–3 devis; rates in the 78 (Saint-Germain) skew mid-to-high. All-in figures assume your ~32 m² material order + ~28.6 m² laid.

Clipsable (floating clip)Glued (collée)
Labour €/m²25–40 €40–60 € (up to 70 €)
Labour total (~29 m²)~700–1,200 €~1,150–1,750 €
Accessory noteUnderlay + plinthes + spacers ~450 €Glue ~1.2 kg/m² (≈240 €) instead of clips; underlay not used; plinthes
All-in installed~3,300–3,850 €~3,900–4,500 €

Why glued costs more: stricter substrate prep (often ragréage/self-levelling first, sometimes billed separately), slower, section-by-section, more skill. Clipsable is faster and reversible, and the EASIKLIP boards support both — so the labour method is genuinely your only real variable now that you've locked Naturel.

11. Underlay method (locked — floating clip, Naturel 18×150)

Product: EASIKLIP sous-couche 2-en-1, 6.20 €/m², réf MSOUSCOUCHE000001 — 3 mm, mousse polyéthylène 30 kg/m³, pare-vapeur PE 80 µ intégré (avec débord), affaiblissement acoustique −22 dB, vendue en rouleaux 1 m × 15 m (15 m²). Need 2 rolls for ~29 m².

Lay method: film (pare-vapeur) side down against the concrete → overlap the débords ~10 cm and tape the seams so the vapour barrier is continuous → run a few cm up the walls, trim after plinthes → single layer only (do not double).

Acoustics vs creak — two different fixes:

If buying elsewhere: same recipe — 2-in-1 (or separate 80 µ+ PE film + acoustic layer), −19 to −22 dB, 2–3 mm max, firm (≥30 kg/m³). Avoid thick soft laminate underlays: for solid oak, thin + firm, or you introduce movement that causes creak.

14. The "glue over 25 m²" rule for solid T&G (sources)

Christian's question: find a trustworthy source that classic tongue-and-groove (rainure + languette) solid oak must be glued past 25 m². Found two layers of evidence, one stronger than the other. Both confirm your ~28.6 m² (ordered 32 m²) room is over the line.

Authoritative layer: the DTU framework (stricter than any "25 m²" figure)

The French DTU (document technique unifié) doesn't use a 25 m² threshold: it rules out floating pose for solid parquet entirely. Solid oak (massif) is either cloué or collé, never floating:

PoseDTUApplies to
Clouée (nailed)DTU 51.1Parquet massif (sur sous-couche DTU 51.3 / lambourdes)
Collée (glued)DTU 51.2Parquet massif + contrecollé collé au support
Flottante (floating)DTU 51.11Contrecollé / placage bois only (not massif)

Sources:

Manufacturer layer: where the exact "25 m²" number comes from

The precise "> 25 m² must be glued" figure is manufacturer guidance from solid-oak maker Morava Wood (their T&G and click massif):

Caveat: the 25 m² number is Morava's own rule, not a DTU figure. The DTU is the authoritative backstop and it's stricter (massif = never floating). Either way your room is over 25 m², so classic T&G solid oak would need glue.

But this does NOT apply to your locked EASIKLIP choice

EASIKLIP is not classic tongue-and-groove. It's aluminium clips that span a groove on each board, replacing the wood-tongue-in-wood-groove lock that normally needs glue or nails. So the "T&G must be glued" rule doesn't bite it. Honest caveat: EASIKLIP floating massif is a proprietary system outside DTU 51.11 (which only normalises contrecollé floating); its floating performance rests on EASIKLIP's own technical approval and warranty, not a DTU. Same status for the Junckers ClipSystem, the only other massif-floating system.
